Another Ribbon Cut

The new Pioneer Elementary School fittingly boasts several 1sts for it’s District, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it all

We were on hand this morning for a limited in-person (but mostly virtual) ribbon-cutting and Grand Opening celebration of the new Pioneer Elementary School we’ve been building in Gig Harbor.

The first new school to be built in the Peninsula School District in 34 years, Pioneer is also the 1st STEAM magnet school for the District, as well as their 1st 2-story elementary school–and the 1st project to be completed of the District’s four schools currently underway.

Built in just over a year, the new school makes use of an existing Boys & Girls Club facility that was completely renovated and expanded with a 30-classroom addition; and allowed for the fast-tracking of the project. Housing a climbing wall and re-purposed hard wood flooring in the gym; a music room, stage, and performance space; an Exploratorium; and a massive covered outdoor play area, among other features students will love–the new Pioneer Elementary will be a major asset to its community, which has doubled in size over the last thirty years.

For more on the new school, you can join Pioneer Principal Stephanie Strader on a virtual tour of the new building, and you can read more about the design process via this great post from our team’s Architect, TCF.

A big thank you to the Gig Harbor community and all the little current and future Pathfinders–we hope you will love your new school for many years to come.
