Do You Like Apples?
We’re proud to announce that two FORMA projects were recognized at this year’s A4LE Polished Apple Awards.
Completed in 2019 for the Bainbridge Island School District, the new 68,000 sf Blakely Elementary School was honored with this year’s Polished Apple Award–recognizing the single most distinctive project among a field of outstanding educational facilities. Delivered via GC/CM collaboration in partnership with our talented A&E team, led by Mithun–the new campus celebrates connection to its wooded site with flexible indoor/outdoor classrooms, an emphasis on healthy learning environments, and one-of-a-kind materials–most notably 14 hand-selected, kiln-dried oak trees installed as load-bearing structural columns throughout.
Another recent occupied campus replacement delivered via GC/CM collaboration, the new Madrona K-8 school in Edmonds received this year’s People’s Choice Award. Designed by Mahlum Architects, the inspiring new school features abundant natural light, flexible classroom partitioning, and in-floor heat; as well as specialized technology and thoughtfully designed learning spaces for its Deaf and Hard of Hearing students & staff, as the District’s regional DHH school.
Thank you A4LE and congratulations to the Edmonds and Bainbridge Island School Districts; their students, staff, and communities; and to the incredible GC/CM teams we were privileged to work with on these unique and inspiring schools.
