You Push, I’ll Pull

FORMA Construction executed a tricky and unusual operation this week – bracing and lifting an historic, 100 year old building off its foundation, and sliding it slightly to the south.

FORMA is very proud to be working with the Port of Seattle to transform the historic Ship Supply Building at Fishermen’s Terminal into the Maritime Innovation Center–a unique new hub that will promote knowledge transfer, business incubation, and workforce development to support the modernization and competitiveness of Washington State’s maritime industry.

Targeting Living Building Challenge certification–the world’s strictest environmental metric–the new MInC will be one of the most innovative and greenest buildings on the planet, a symbol of the Port’s commitment to sustainability, resilience, and community.

This ambitious project, already 7 years in the works, will involve selective demolition and reconstruction of the Port’s oldest structure, as well as the installation of a new deep pile foundation system to account for the site’s fill and poor soils. To achieve all this, the delicate and settling 1910’s structure was braced, lifted, and moved off its footprint on Tuesday to it’s new temporary home on the same site, so we can begin the extensive foundation work later this summer.
