“This building, it’s just phenomenal…” – OVK-8 Principal Choi
Last week’s grand opening event to celebrate the impressive new Olympic View K-8 School in Federal Way attracted scores of excited parents, students, teachers, community members, and even a few Seattle Sounders.
Complete on budget and on schedule, the new two-story, 67,000 sf K-8 school was envisioned as a multicultural hub to meet the individual learning needs of each scholar and to support their families. With that objective in mind, the new community-focused campus features a Family Connection Center, a Discovery Lab, a Community Pavilion, and a school Rain Garden; in addition to high-quality, advanced and adaptable teaching environments providing opportunities for personalized learning, innovation, and exploration.
Among the unique and inspiring community amenities at OVK-8 is a new soccer mini pitch. Part of the school grounds but also open to the community, free of charge, after hours–the new play space was donated by FORMA Construction and incorporated into the project in collaboration with Black Players for Change, the Seattle Sounders, and the Rave Foundation.
Former FC Sounders First Team player Lamar Neagle, who grew up in Federal Way and graduated from the nearby Thomas Jefferson High School, was on hand with other former and current Sounders players to celebrate the opening of the beautiful new school and oversee the first official goal scored on the new soccer pitch.
Our fifth new school built for FWPS in collaboration with this incredible Federal Way community, we are thrilled to have been a part of the new Olympic View K-8 School and the lasting positive impact it will have on local scholars for years to come.
