Magnolia Elementary Restoration & Expansion
In the many decades since its construction in 1927, the original Magnolia school building has housed classes for students in grades K-8, served as an interim campus, and the site of the District’s first Elementary Learning Resources Center.
Shuttered from 2003 – 2017, the Magnolia School was awarded Landmark status in 2015 and FORMA was brought on in late 2018 to restore and expand this historically significant school building–now unfortunately marked by years of neglect and spray paint.
Our work involved repair and renovation throughout, as well as seismic and infrastructure upgrades, and construction of two new steel-structure wings housing additional classrooms, a library, gym, and locker room facilities—transforming a graffiti-covered, crumbling building into a beautiful new, state of the art school with the richness of its history restored.
