“Lift it Up!” “Put it Down!”

FORMA enlists a squad of short and boisterous foremen to direct our crane pick at Bellevue College.

When the HVAC system failed in the Q Building at Bellevue College and FORMA was contacted to perform an emergency replacement, Sr PM Ryan Wright had a brilliant idea. Why not get the kids involved?

Housing the College’s Early Learning Center, the Q Building is regularly teaming with three and four year olds – just the right age to appreciate big noisy construction equipment and high-flying operations. Set up behind a barricade and back a safe distance from the action on a beautiful sunny morning, 20+ Pre-K students donned kid-sized safety vests and hard hats complete with crane pick stickers to watch us fly the new cooling tower and boiler units into place on the roof of their building. Shouting questions and cheering for the flying equipment, the kid-os learned all about the parts of the 4-axle mobile crane (what even is a boom?) and how our crews on the ground communicate with the crane operator (special hand signals) to stay perfectly in sync and ensure the safety of everyone on site.

A flawlessly executed project and a good excuse to get the next generation jazzed about construction, Tuesday’s operation was a great success – thank you Bellevue College!
