Richmond Highlands Park is Open to All

“Every detail reflects care, inclusivity, and accessibility making it a truly Welcoming Place for All.” – Shoreline resident

We were so proud to gather last weekend with 250 friends and neighbors to celebrate the opening of Richmond Highlands Park, the third of eight parks we’ve renovated to date with Progressive Design-Build partners Mithun and the City of Shoreline.

Two years ago, a young lady with disabilities spoke at our groundbreaking ceremony, thanking our team for creating a place where she could “safely enjoy a multi-sensory experience.” The newly-opened and re-imagined Richmond Highlands Park delivers just that with wheelchair-accessible merry-go-rounds; a sensory trail and gardens with musical instruments, seating and shade structures, diverse plantings, and preserved 60+ year old Douglas Firs; a new ball field, picnic shelter, multi-sport court, and more — this is what “Parks for Everyone” looks like.

FORMA + Mithun’s ongoing partnership in Shoreline has been a showcase for the benefits and successes of Design-Build delivery — a process that relies on consistent messaging, big brainstorming, aligned priorities, and collaborative decision making — always with an emphasis on adaptability, trust, and iterative progress.

With Richmond Highlands, Ridgecrest Park, and the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Boardwalk now complete, James Keough Park is next up, with a public in the fall. To stay abreast of upcoming milestones and grand openings at each of these eight rejuvenated Shoreline parks, head over to the City’s website.
