Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center
This award-winning, LEED Gold certified facility invites the hands-on study of its rich surrounding ecosystem. Sited in the wetland’s dense forest, the Center’s series of structures and walkways rest on hundreds of four foot square footings atop underground pilings–lifting the campus into the tree canopy and allowing the forest floor environment to flow almost undisturbed far below. Other sustainable features include rain chains and gabion rock walls to disperse stormwater; living roofs; FSC certified lumber; and rapidly renewable, locally sourced materials.
