Sartori Elementary School Replacement
Built to replace the original 1929 school, the new Sartori Elementary serves 600 K-5 students and features high ceilings, abundant natural light, and secure decks on the second and third levels for outdoor instruction. Flexible learning spaces support the STEM-focused curriculum and can be adapted to accommodate new innovations in teaching technologies.
The award-winning new 77,000 sf structural steel & CMU school was built on sandy till at 34′ above sea level on a constrained site in Renton. With these conditions in mind, the building’s foundation is supported by 24″ pilings, pile caps, and grade beams, as well as a structural slab. A total of 218 auger cast pilings are sunk 65′ deep with rebar cages and tension rods–approximately 12′ on center east/west and north/south with grade beams connecting them.
