Trees as Structure on Bainbridge Island
Published: October 11, 2018
Dear Internet, we saw this and thought of you
Construction is cruising right along on the new Blakely Elementary School on Bainbridge Island where last week we placed the first two (of thirteen total) “trees” that will be a part of the building’s structure.
Hand-picked for their sizes and shapes, harvested, de-barked, kiln dried, and milled to receive their structural steel attachment points; these real white oak trees were supplied by Whole Trees, and are just one of the unique and wonderful elements this new school will feature.
To see photos from Day 1 of our install of these lovely giants, check out our facebook album, and you can follow construction progress if you like on the project’s Instagram feed.
