the Humboldt Penguin Experience, WPZ

The new habitat for the Woodland Park Zoo's Humboldt Penguin population features viewable nesting burrows, rocky tide pools, and acrylic walls--inviting close interaction with this unique endangered species. Built while the zoo was fully operational, our field team protected the safety of the public without compromising the efficiency or quality of our work or sacrificing the Zoo's critical fundraising events and public access. Though LEED certification was not pursued on this project, the new exhibit features sustainable initiatives such as geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater collection, runoff mitigation, and energy conservation. Exhibit Achievement Award - Assoc. of Zoos & Aquariums, 2010 Green Washington Award - Seattle Business Magazine, 2009 Design Excellence Award - Seattle Design Commission, 2009

I could not have been more impressed with the diligence, speed, and care with which FORMA performed a year's worth of construction work within eight months.
